Frequently Asked Questions

Most questions should be answered in this section. If there are further questions, don’t hesitate to contact us.

Language, Literacy, and Nature

What is nature-based learning or therapy?
Nature-based learning uses nature to teach a variety of academic concepts. We take items that can be seen on a walk outside or while exploring a pond to develop a better understanding of the world around us. Our goal is to build language, science skills and array of other skills using nature as the core.
What is a language and literacy camp?
Our camp centers learning around books to develop novel vocabulary while also encouraging skills related to reading. This may include developing phonological awareness, reading fluency, and reading comprehension. While our learning centers around the development of language and literacy, we also incorporate learning related to science, math, art, and beyond. Nature offers so many wonderful learning opportunities.
My child doesn’t have any delays, is this the camp for them?
This camp is designed to be inclusive. That means children from all backgrounds are welcome. Children who may not have speech or language delays will still learn new vocabulary and comprehension skills and get them ready for returning to school.

Cost and Payment

Can insurance pay for camp?
No. Insurance cannot fund the camp. In some instances, we will have group therapy sessions and can provide a superbill to use to seek reimbursement from your insurance company. Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) may cover the cost of day camps.
What if I cannot afford the full amount of camp?

Payment plans and other supports may be provided. Please contact info@rootedincolor.com for details.

Can I sponsor a child to attend?
Yes! If you are interested in supporting a child/ren in attending this camp or other activities such as therapy with Rooted in Color please email us at info@rootedincolor.com

Speech-Language Therapy

My child has significant support needs, can they attend camp?
Our staff is equipped to work with children with a range of developmental needs. Feel free to contact us directly with specific concerns. Of note, children with mobility differences may have challenges navigating some of the terrain we will use, but we are here to support them.
Can specific speech and language goals be addressed?
During our week at camp, we aim to incorporate a variety of learning opportunities. If your child has an IEP, we are happy to review that information and use it as a guide for engaging your child.
Will I receive a progress report after camp?
We will provide a daily summary of the activities completed during camp. At the end of the week, you will receive a summary with ideas to continue to engage learning at home.
I am interested in one-on-one therapy
We currently accept Medicaid and private-pay with a superbill for one-on-one therapy options. Schedule a free consultation to discuss these options in the calendly link above.

Safety (COVID & Weather)

COVID Statement

We have covered areas as needed in the event of rain. In cases of severe weather such as lightning, indoor facilities will be utilized.
